The new term has started well with the children enjoying their new theme entitled Splish, Splash, Splosh. In the classroom we are creating a role play area based on "The Lighthouse Keeper" stories, whilst in the outdoor area, a seaside scene is unfolding.
The children have been listening to some of these stories in Literacy and are linking ICT and creating pages and text for their favourite part from one of the books. The next unit will move onto poetry where they will be looking at pond creatures and writing riddles.
In the first half of term, Numeracy covers the understanding of place value, including thousands and problems related to everyday life. The children will also be using strategies to add and subtract two digit numbers mentally.
In Science they have started to learn about the water cycle and rivers. They are also learning about electricity and its uses and will be making lighthouses with a flashing light!
Art is focusing on printing and all the children have designed a water creature. Later in the term, they will be using photos to create different images, so they will be able to use the school grounds to support their learning. The children have already enjoyed the bug hunt and pond dipping.
P.E is on Tuesdays with swimmimg on Wednesdays. As the weather becomes warmer, the children will need plimsolls or trainers for going outside, with perhaps a top for cooler days.
We are lucky this term to have Mrs Edwards joining us. She is on placement from Homerton College, Cambridge and will be taking the children for some of the lessons.
