Welcome to Caterpillar Class!
Class Teacher: Miss E Winwick
Teaching Assistants: Mrs Brawn and Miss Haynes
Autumn Term Topics: Marvellous Me/ Amazing Autumn/ Winter Wonderland. We will also be exploring Diwali, Bonfire Night and Christmas. All children will play a part in our Christmas Key Stage One Nativity.
Spring Term Topic: Get out of my Swamp! and Taking Off
Summer Term Topics: Fins, Fur and Feathers
PE Days: Monday and Wednesday
PE kits must consist of either a black school PE top, or a plain black t-shirt with black shorts. Suitable footwear must be worn. Children may wear a plain black tracksuit for outdoor PE.
We advise bringing PE kits in to School on Monday and leaving these at school all week as PE days may change. PE kits will be sent home with your child on a Friday.
*Please ensure that all items of clothing (school uniform, PE Kit and coats) are clearly named.
Music Day: Friday
Reading: When children are ready for a reading book, this will be sent home with a reading record. Reading books progress through colour bands as follows;
- Lilac (Emerging)
- Pink (Emerging)
- Red (Expected, if reading fluently)
- Yellow (Expected)
- Blue (Exceeding)
At the end of the year, we expect all children to leave Reception reading Yellow level books.
We also expect that all children read at home regularly, a minimum of 3 time a week. Reading books will be changed on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday to allow for children to read the same book more than once. This helps them to build confidence and fluency in their reading.
Outdoor Learning: The children have access to the garden all day, every day - come rain or shine! We have all-in-one outdoor, waterproof suits for the children to wear , however we do ask that you provide a pair of wellington boots to be kept at school.
Home Learning: Learning Logs will be sent home on a Friday. These will include a Phonics task (new sounds/tricky words from Phonics that week) and a curriculum based activity (either an extension of our learning or a preparation activity for new learning). Homework is to be completed by the following Wednesday.
Tapestry: Parents are invited to attend our Tapestry information afternoon on Tuesday 25th September at 3:30pm. This will take place in the school hall and children are welcome. Here we will be able to share the Terms and Conditions, sign the acceptable use policy and set up your Tapestry account, allowing you to see the learning that your child is doing at school. You will also be able to upload pictures and observations from home which can be shared at school.
Please see the link below for Tapestry support, or see Miss Winwick if you have any questions.
WOW Wall: Each week, a WOW slip will be sent home. Please complete this with any achievements from home e.g. getting themselves dressed, swimming lessons or being brave at the dentist. These are shared with the class and then displayed as a whole class Record of Achievement on the wall. Please just ask should you require another WOW slip - there's no such thing as too many!
Colin the Caterpillar: Our class mascot, Colin, will be sent home on a Friday with our 'Child of the Week'. Please record Colin's adventures in his diary and return him to school by the following Wednesday at the latest. Photographs can be uploaded on to Tapestry or printed and stuck into his diary.
