Be Awesome, Go Big!

These resources have been created to prepare Year 6 pupils for the transition to secondary school.

The lessons are based on the books You Are Awesome by Matthew Syed (all children have their own copies of this book) and Go Big by Matthew Burton.

Each session will take pupils through some big ideas to help them on their way to secondary school.

‘Be Awesome, Go Big’ involves 9 sessions with a workbook to complete and videos from Matthew Syed, Matthew Burton, Gemma Oaten and Jaz Ampaw-Farr.

These sessions focus on things such as:

  1. Being Awesome - If you are reading ‘You Are Awesome’ alongside these sessions, then read up to page 45 and then complete this session.
  2. Unlocking Your Mind - If you are reading ‘You Are Awesome’ alongside these sessions, then read from page 46 to 93. It doesn’t matter if you don’t read it all in one go!
  3. Dare to Take Risks - If you are reading ‘You Are Awesome’ alongside these sessions, then read from page 94 until the end. It doesn’t matter if you don’t read it all in one go because that is a BIG chunk of text!
  4. Making The Change - We are now looking at Matthew Burton’s book ‘Go Big’. If you are reading alongside these sessions, then you can read up to page 35.
  5. Lost but Not Lost - If you are reading alongside these sessions, then you can read up to page 56.
  6. 'Bouncebackability' -  If you are reading alongside these sessions, then you can read up to page 63
  7. What is Normal Anyway - Read from page 63 to page 83, if you have a copy of ‘Go Big’.
  8. Friendships and Fallouts - Read from page 84 to page 117, if you have a copy of ‘Go Big’.
  9. Living Well - Read from page 117 to the end, if you have a copy of ‘Go Big’.
